The average child watches up to forty hours of television per week, as these children become adults, they can bring the excessive television watching habit into adulthood. Do you or a loved one record favorite shows? Do they eat in front of the television every night? Does your loved one avoid interacting with the family to watch certain television shows? Does your loved one know every show, and the channel its on?
These are good indications that you are overdoing it, and personal relationships and the opportunity to live a life to the fullest is escaping you.
Abuse
If your loved one spends most of their leisure time watching television and promises to cut back never come to fruition, there is a problem. If a loved one is avoiding personal relationships and social interaction due to TV viewing, it is an indicator that a person is addicted.
Addiction and Dependency
A person that suffers from television addiction may be masking other issues, such as depression, insecurity, and fear. When the habit interferes with the ability to grow, to learn newthings, to lead an active life, then it does constitute dependence and should be taken seriously. This can be a very frustrating compulsion for the addicted, especially when most of us equate the television with relaxation and comfort.
